Theoretically this could be an "unseen version" that has been edited differently than all of the previous revisions.
I think the original airing of the TV version was in November of 1977 or 1978, not 1979. I followed the instructions on this post and actually got it to work. The 1980 VHS version ends with the flashback of Michael telling his brothers around the dinner table that he has joined the Marines. Here is an old post with a download link to a VHS rip of The Godfather Trilogy: 19011980, which is The Godfather Epic (aka The Godfather Saga), but with all three films edited together. The 7 and a half hour TV version has scenes not included in any other version like the ending with Kay lighting candles in the cathedral.
The VHS "Saga"did not come out on 1981, it was actually released in 1980. The article states that the VHS version of the TV version is just shortened, but it is also edited differently with some violence added back not in the TV version.
There is another thread out there with a link to the versions. The Novel For TV about 1978, the shorter Godfather Saga that came out in 1980 on VHS and Beta and a later one that included the Godfather III on Laserdisc and VHS. There are multiple different cuts put together in chronological order.
